Role Overview
My client is seeking two qualified Diesel Mechanics to join their Johannesburg depot. The successful candidates will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing and repair of diesel engine vehicles, with a strong focus on keeping the fleet safe, reliable and fully operational. This role requires a hands-on individual who can work proactively to prevent breakdowns and reduce operational risk, while also being able to respond quickly and effectively to mechanical faults, repairs and breakdowns when required.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel engine vehicles within the fleet.
Conducting mechanical inspections and identifying faults, wear and potential risks.
Carrying out preventative maintenance to minimise breakdowns and operational delays.
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical faults on heavy-duty vehicles, coaches and trucks.
Assisting with repairs to engines, gearboxes, differentials and related mechanical components.
Ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required technical standard.
Looking after workshop tools, equipment and mechanical inspection tools.
Managing and monitoring tooling, supplies and workshop stock where required.
Supporting cost-effective maintenance and repair operations.
Maintaining accurate documentation and repair records.
Communicating clearly with workshop management and relevant team members.
Ensuring the workshop environment remains organised, safe and operationally efficient.
Being available for standby duties and weekend work when required.
Minimum Requirements
South African citizen.
Grade 12 / Matric.
Qualified Diesel Mechanic Trade Test.
Valid Code EC or EC1 driver’s license.
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Diesel Technician in a large workshop environment would be advantageous.
Experience working on coaches, trucks or heavy-duty vehicles would be advantageous.
Experience overhauling engines, gearboxes and differentials would be advantageous.
Experience working on Volvo, Scania and Mercedes-Benz vehicles would be advantageous.
Strong technical understanding and practical mechanical knowledge.
Willing and able to work standby and weekends when required.
